Five Ways of Looking at the World That Will Make You a Lot of Money
"If they can do it, then so can I."
There’s nothing worse than a broke mindset.
We’ve all been there. Those times where you lounge around at home and complain about every little thing through the tiny teleportation device of your phone. Life has knocked you down, so you accidentally knock others down to feel better.
I’ve never met someone who made a lot of money and is a pessimist.
Getting rich isn’t my goal in life. But making enough money – so I don’t have to wear a suit, and a tie that acts as a noose – definitely is.
Corporate politics at work is a lethal virus for some of us. Passive income is how you make plenty of money to avoid going to an office.
The hidden challenge is the way you see the world. Making money through smarter means than a 9-5 job requires a different perspective on life. Here are a few world views that have helped me.
There’s always opportunity
It’s easy to think you’re too late to every opportunity.
Yes, it’s late in the internet’s lifecycle. Social media isn’t exactly new anymore either. Even Bitcoin has been around since 2008. That doesn’t mean you can’t make money online. Part of the problem is the people we spend time with online.
If you’re in the wrong circles then the people around you will give you all the excuses about why each opportunity you discover won’t work. The trick is to get out of these circles. I’m in multiple groups with people who see nothing but opportunities.
Even though I wasn’t born to view life in this way, I’ve had to learn to see life differently. Otherwise, the opportunists wouldn’t let me in on the party.
Ask yourself, “how many opportunities can you find right now?”
If the answer is no then it’s a sign there is work to do.
Simply being connected to the internet is the only advantage you need to make a lot of money. The rest is mindset.
If I work hard I will get there
It’s pointless finding a good opportunity to make money if you don’t work hard at it. I find many content creators give up far too soon. They can generally go hard at it for 12 months, but then after that they give up.
Making a lot of money online takes longer than 12 months. That’s why most people never make it and don’t know why. If there was guaranteed success if you stuck at it for 5+ years, then people wouldn’t give up. The problem is no such guarantee exists. You have to invent your own accountability contract.
Start with this: Do I love this way of making money enough to do it for 5 years?
If yes: keep going.
If no: reevaluate.
Money is financial energy. You have to put a lot of time and energy in to convert your personal effort into financial energy.
Other people help me rise up
Making a lot of money rarely happens in isolation. You need other people to help you. Maybe they make your website or become your customer or teach you marketing or inspire you or work for you as a virtual assistant.
The lesson here is you need to be exceptional at attracting other people to your work. Then you have to get good at keeping them.
Huge mistake I made: seeing other people with the same goal as me, as competitors. There are no competitors. Every competitor is a potential partner. There are things your competitors don’t want to do, and will never do. Your skills or business can fill the gap for them. That’s how partnerships are formed.
Partnerships create leverage faster, and leverage leads to a lot more money.
If they can do it, then so can I
Those who have the results we’re after are no smarter than us.
It’s easy to look at:
• Where someone grew up
• What jobs they’ve held
• Who someone is friends with
• How much money a person started with
These things can make us think “it can’t be me.”
The truth is it can be. The things you lack in life are the greatest motivators.
Starting with money robs you of drive. Having all the cool contacts prevents you from developing the skill of networking. Growing up in a good neighborhood makes you less relatable to other classes of society.
Look at who you admire and remember that their results can be yours.
The more tools, the more distractions
You might think more tools are needed – another book, or online course, or seminar, or coaching session. Tools can become distractions.
Tools are distractions to hide fear. Getting started is hard. Not making any money at the beginning sets off all sorts of alarm bells in your head. Being fearful makes us seek comfort, and it’s comfortable to play with tools and think you’re not ready.
Money is made when you:
Choose a strategy.
Work at the strategy.
Iterate on the strategy as you go.
Persist through the inevitable roadblocks.
The work that has to be done is obvious. The hard part is doing the work. See the world as a place full of distractions you need to avoid.
Bringing it all together
The world is an abundant place full of ways to make money. Check out Web 3.0., Ethereum, NFTs, online gaming, or even old school Twitter if you’re stuck for ideas.
Opportunities are there. You simply have to see the world as better than it is. You have to dare to dream and surround yourself with others who are willing to do the same. '
Choose optimism and you will eventually make more money.
