Disappoint your parents until they cry is EXCELLENT advice. I've always acknowledged that rules make me itchy, but that subconscious desire to "make mom proud" was standing in the way of granting myself permission to do things my way. This little nugget is one for the ages.
1) I realized early on that group-think didn't work for me.
As a kid, at first I wanted to be accepted by the "cool people" until I realized they wouldn't.
Then I realized they often weren't that cool at all. Behind the facade they were self serving, they were not authentic and many times they had crappy ideas.
So even though seeking peer approval was a driver at first, I decided to start following my instincts and find people that I aligned with comfortably.
This was a small group and we all "didn't fit in" together. But we could always be ourselves.
I liked that better.
2) I like your advice because you are consistent, you walk your talk and you don't bs...
I'm connecting to a lot of what you're saying. I could quote and talk after every paragraph.
I subscribed to Unfiltered months ago but didn't open a single email until yesterday! ...to rediscover why I subscribed.
I didn't become wealthy (as with $$) in 6 months but I'm in the best place internally I've ever been in my life since I'm no longer acting to meet someone's expectation on my role. And the external is beautifully following and restructuring around me.
Hi Tim, your articles have been very helpful for me to keep moving forward, but I have a question. I recently published my first book on Amazon and started wondering: What steps can an aspiring author take to create their own luck in the publishing industry? Thanks ;)
"Take what you’re skeptical about and dare to f*cking explore it."
That's how I came to capital markets, Tim. First I thought they were a scam. Then I built a multiple six-figure portfolio. My life has never been the same.
I've always lived below my means but couldn't find a way to make my money work. One day I said "F*ck it" and bought a stock. Nothing happened so I bought another one.
Great article - very inspirational! One very interesting aspect is that most people think that they are better than the average. So, we always know a football match better from the sofa than the team who works together closely. They are all jerks. But when it comes to our lives, we stay on the couch and belittle ourselves, playing down all our positives and strengths.
First, speak up for yourself in your head. Turn down the volume of your thoughts and leave the sofa.

Are parents more proud when their kids follow their own path?
Tried and true is the only thing that’s safe. All else is madness? Not a parent, but that seems about right.
Refusing to conform is the only way I’ve been able to be true to myself. I don’t fit in and I don’t want to. It’s the best way to be.
Has that affected your career Amy?
You bet it has 😉
stair-dancing Joker's style here
Is that a good thing?
absolutely lol
I've almost always felt like I never fit in.
I like your advice. Sound and simple - based on real experienc. 👍
Why do you feel that way?

Heard it this time. Rules are meant to be broken eventually. Great info!
Have you broken any rules Hermann?
I love every word of this article.
What idea resonates the most IIona?
Thanks Tim for this insightful article.
No probs

Out of curiosity what kind of luck are you looking for? I.e. more book sales or are you looking to sell other things to your readers and fans?
:) parabéns do Brazil
Cliff, what does that mean in English? Feel like I'm missing out haha

What caused you to challenge your previous beliefs?
$66k in my checking account haha :)

That's usually the way it goes lol
Wow Denis! 👀
Bravo, love the encouragement to break away from the blond obedience of the masses.
Its time to rise up & triumph 😎
You got this Susan 🧡
Yes, if only I could spell 😂 or maybe its only the blondes who obey !
Your need for permission is your competitor's opportunity to win
Thanks!
I shared this only with my smartest friends:
How do you become obsessed with your business Tim? I wouldn't say I look forward to getting up every day and doing cold outreach to find clients.
