"The biggest risk in your career is playing it too safe." This hit home with me. My biggest risk is not taking one. This is an epiphany for me. It's because of things like this that I keep reading your material.
There's not 1 person. Youtube, books, therapist, friends said writing will change your life. Then got to learn value of thoughts (in mind) and value of words (on paper) is totally different.
I found your honesty about the daily story you told yourself touching. Real. Thoroughly relatable. Julia Cameron's Artist's way was my gateway (25 years ago) to writing down the excruciating, daily, inner fear-based voice. Changed my life irrevocably. (as you say, you can't win an argument with a critic - 'specially not an inner critic). Fear feels like the most powerful hallucinogenic; distorts reality. I also like how Nick Wignall writes about this. A favourite teacher has this: "Thoughts become things, choose the good ones". Your work is valuable.
Evaluating 5 year chunks is a lot more doable than it sounds. I’m already approaching my 2 year writing anniversary and it feels like I just started yesterday. Time flies when you truly enjoy what you’re doing
"You can do and be anything you want when you don't give up on yourself. Whatever you think you might do with the time you have left in your life, it's time to do it."
Outstanding article and advice. I'll add, don't wait until you are (like me) in your seventies. But if you have, you'll be amazed how it can change your life. I'm living the best years of my life by allowing myself to explore new challenges that have given me purpose and fulfillment.
Your words were so touching. I'm sorry you had to go through this. But I'm glad you're out of it and had the courage to write about it. My biggest takeaway is to give up on short term results, especially when it comes to writing.
My biggest fear is my confidence, not to mention negative self-talk. Been doing that since childhood. Thank you for reminding me to keep trying. Since I started engaging, I've actually been coming out of my shell a little. Its not easy to share personal flaws about yourself. So thanks to all of you guys on Substack.
If you wanna receive results after one year, then WORK Harder on your DREAMS on a daily basis with no excuses. Hard work and consistency is the key to your success.

Thinking in five-year chunks helps. It applies to everything meaningful in life, be it writing online or investing for financial freedom.
10 year chunks are for psychopaths, right?
Haha yeah! I know you're one of them 😀
Ummm, do not wait til you are 82.
82 is too late.
> When you can see your thoughts on paper they look different. They show you who you really are, not who you think you are.
Best
Who taught you that?

Lovely, valuable, authentic. Thank you.
