Great post Tim. I think the biggest key (for me) has been to stop doing unimportant stuff, and there is far more unimportant stuff than we realize!

A simple technique but very effective John.

I did a hard reset a couple years ago - got divorced after 29 years and a decade+ of resentment and dysfunction. Tim those self care tips you mentioned - yoga, meditation, reading, nature - kept me from a total collapse. I took a rotten life experience and turned it into a coaching business supporting people doing their own reset and recalibration. Life gave me lemons so…

Thanks Tim for your constant reminders to invest in what matters to us most while we still can.

Thanks Cathy for sharing your story. I'd perhaps remove the ad from your content as it's off-putting to strangers, and not a good way to sell.

Thanks! What was the best part?

The simplification of it all. Make a goal, review weekly, stay focused, adjust when you need to.

Love this! I also think it’s important to note that often times we’re addicted to stuff without realising it. Ie. I get a dopamine hit whenever Slack goes off. I’m trying to set boundaries and change it, although it’s tough 😂

Me too Anna. Slack is difficult for me as well. Any tips for fixing the issue?

I don’t have it on my phone which is super useful, and I also typically have do not disturb turned on when I’m on my computer. It helps a bit!

The best tip is to move to the seaside, delete it all together then throw your phone in the ocean.

Hey Tim, just wanted to let you know - I review how my stories do on Medium every week. My life isn't boring but I need to work on my writing. Then I pick the stories that have done best on Medium and re-purpose them for Substack.

I would never use this strategy Denis.

The value prop makes no sense. Why would someone pay for your work on Medium if they can get it on Substack? Or why would someone pay for your Substack if your work is also on Medium?

Honestly, I run an academy that teaches this stuff. You should learn it in-depth so you don't make these mistakes. Copying pasting the same stuff doesn't work. Every platform is its own language.

Tim, thanks for taking the time to answer. I see your point. Looks like I should join your academy. Which I'll gladly do.

Good, practical advice.

I think one main factor is to try and cultivate a persistent mindset, such that we're able to better stick to our new plan, and less likely to fall back into our previous, unhealthy and unproductive behaviours and lifestyles.

I'd agree with that Raveen. How do you stay persistent in your life?

Expand full comment

I'm in the process of strengthening my focus and concentration. Cause that'll really help my mind from getting too easily distracted, which in turn will enable me to be more persistent.

I’ll get very honest here Tim. Only 3 people know this truth. I am a heroin addict. How do you do a hard reset when you literally cannot stop using your dopamine hijacker. I’ve tried treatment, medications, etc. The only thing that worked for me was methadone and I’d have to drive 2 hours one way everyday just to be able to get it. I cannot afford that financially. (Yes i know drugs cost money but my habit is not as expensive as the cure). Perhaps this isn’t the place for this convo or maybe it’s the best place for it. What I do know is opiates are the only thing that ever could bring me out of my soul sucking suicide fostering depression to a degree that I was able to function. I’m all ears friend.
