Do you use social media as well Venkatesh?

Expand full comment

No Tim.. my usage of social media.. its close to zero.. deleted my Facebook accn 10yrs back, never felt like going back either!!!.. and rarely even use Instagram or X or anything .. it's a waste of time.

Any reason you ask ?

Tim, the moment you validate your offer (get your first client), you begin to see opportunities everywhere. I was talking to a colleague who wants to make money in the stock market but doesn't know how. This is exactly what my offer is about. I made it to him. He thought for a week and said "yes." If he executes on what I teach the right way, the ROI will be 1,000x. He wins and I win.

Love this. What sort of advice are you giving him to get 1000X returns? Tech stocks?

Expand full comment

No, I explain how the stock market works. A common misconception I'm sure you know is P/E and P/B (or any other) ratios. They don't give you an edge by default because millions of people can compute them. My investment philosophy is to follow institutional investors. What they're accumulating/dumping is enlightening. But investors should be able to track their activity which is obfuscated. This is what I teach. This strategy has worked for me so it can work for them. My goal is to teach them to make their own decisions regardless of the type of stocks.

This is a unique approach. Back yourself Denis.

This is it, Tim: "You draft it in a google doc, then start sending it to everyone you know and any social media followers you have. If people buy then you double down. If nobody buys then you tweak the offer until they do, or try different business models.".

This model works. Do you believe it?

Can you send me one of your offers? I can't quite picture this. Is it like a LP with a link to a payment request?

I can admit that I am not that smart, and I found my job today by just posting and engaging on social media many years ago and staying consistent for a few years. My aim is to do this all over again with Substack. This is my first year 😃

Awesome. What social media will you use on top?

I’ve been asking myself the same question. I was really hoping to just work Substack. Do you think something else is necessarily required? I’ve been thinking about LinkedIn. I’m not sure TikTok, Instagram, or Twitter would drive a lot of traffic over to Substack.

Christos, my gut says LinkedIn. TikTok and Instagram are a waste of time. Not that I have an opinion 😂

Tim will say X or LinkedIn when he wakes up 😃

haha thank you, I figured the same!

I'm on LinkedIn Christos.

It's a great platforms and fewer people too.

It's more business focused and professional than X.

Thanks for sharing! I have been thinking about getting on there as well.

This is great, but your assumptions about peoples energy are not necessarily correct. It's been proven that we don't all have the same sleep cycles and energy cycles. I, for example, have my highest amounts of energy around sunset—which is why I work out every evening around 6pm.

The advice should be "work when your energy is best" ... not, "your energy is best in the morning so work then." That might be true for you, but it's not a fact about humans as a species.

Totally agree. I get some of my best writing accomplished after 8 pm. I have always been a night owl.

This altered my brain chemistry is SO many ways. So timely and so so enlightening. As writers we see ourselves as unworthy of financial support but no more. Our job matters just as much as the next person. Tim, I am GRATEFUL ahh 🙏🏾

Many people often ask themselves, 'What’s the best time to start something?'

My answer is: ‘NOW.’

Definitely start now, and that’s how you’ll build momentum.

So before you ask yourself the questions like:

-What if I fail at it?

-What if people judge me?

-What if it doesn’t generate the results?

You need to think that ‘PERFECT’ time doesn’t exist.

Because perfection is nothing but a myth.

Which means now is the right time to start something you’ve always wanted to do.

"Here’s the crazy thing: the average person will get inspired but then stop showing up every day for 60 minutes within 30 days. All you have to do is not make that mistake and you’re well on your way." Derek 1.0 definitely identifies with this statement. v2.0 understands the concept of small, continual efforts, day in and day out.

“Good news: anyone can sell because sales is just helping people.” As a person who hates salesy-selling, this is the best sentence I’ve read. Sticking it on a Post-It on my monitor as a daily reminder. :)
