“If you’re too tired to speak, sit next to me, because I too, am fluent in silence.” - so powerful in so many contexts.
When someone has experienced a traumatic event it is very soothing for someone to quietly come alongside them, resist the urge to speak, and sit silently.
Having lost my son 15 years ago, I finally find myself transitioning to a place of tranquility and inner peace. For years I have read about and admired Keanu Reeves. This post is a great collection of "why". Great job
Strange timing, but for me this post written by Mo Gawdat on Scott Gallaway's "No Mercy / No Malice" is so true for me as well. Committed Acceptance. We accept what has happened and that nothing we can do will bring back our sons. We commit that we can still improve my own life and the lives of those around me. And it is our individual decision on how we move forward.
I've had a question on my mind for a long time: How can we teach our children to be compassionate and wise without them experiencing tragedy and loss? I know from my experiences that pain gives us a lot to think about and helps us evolve, but if possible, I want our children to gain that wisdom without suffering.
I think about this a lot Omur. I feel like they need adversity but not necessarily tragedy. Tragedy is someone dying. Adversity is not getting into the school they hoped.
Hi Tim, another great post and although I'm a couple days late, I'm glad I got to catch up and read it.
I strongly resonated with quote #2. The concept of there being only one race is something that I've felt for years and wanted to share with others. I don't like how we continually divide ourselves into debatably mostly trivial categories. Maybe a month ago someone made fun of my appearance because I look like a foreigner, and I guess that's all that mattered to them.
I was really immersed until you made me laugh with your brief Toastmasters story. Thanks for sharing one of your embarrassing moments! It was placed perfectly and caught me off guard.
"Money doesn’t have any meaning, but it does buy you the time needed to discover the meaning of your life."
"Until you can be in a relationship with yourself, it’s hard to bring in an outsider. And you bring you to every new romance. So figure yourself out first, otherwise it could be the hidden cause of all your broken relationships."
Thank you, Tim, for this thought-provoking, informative and humorous article.
That bit about being barely able to give a 60-second speech at Toastmasters, is particularly funny. 😄
As I was reading through these quotes, all I could say was "oh my gosh"... "wow"... ""that's what I've been thinking, he gotta have some type of telepathy". I mean with the situation I'm going through right now, about each one of these quotes resonated within me. Has he written a book because I would love to read it and see more into his way of thinking and what I could learn. Thanx for this article!
This is one of your best. I have always like Reeves... but now even more so. I need to read more about him. I shared your newsletter because I have said many times it drives me crazy all this talk about race this and race that. We are human and that is the only race! Also about silence, and stoicism... dang ... you hit many of my favorite ideas. Thank you.
I knew he was different . These quotes made me realize why. Each one a life lesson. I especially loved the Fluency of Silence.
He thoughts on silence are so good Reema.
That was my favorite one.
Thanks for sharing Sarah.
fluency of silence - me too

That's how I felt Janet when I lost a small fortune. You want company but not necessarily talking.
Great post Tim, one of your best.

Sorry to hear Gary. How does one deal with such a massive loss?

I'm going to read that post now. Thanks Gary.
I stopped thinking of KR as an actor long ago. He’s an extraordinary human being.
Same here Ben. I wish he'd write a book. Don't you?
In all seriousness, Tim, why not approach him about it? It will probably happen eventually. Who knows, he might be ready.
Very cool article. Keanu Reeves is one of my favorite actors/people; thank you for highlighting a few of his stoicisms.
Same here Gary. There's just something about him.

Wow, that totally makes sense. Thank you.

Glad you learned something Lucas. You should try Toastmasters.
I've been thinking about it, and I'm looking for Toastmasters in my area now. I'll make sure to bring my brown pants!
Take the plunge and do it Lucas.

That line is true Thamayi lol
Well, it's a good thing you eventually got a handle on your fear of public speaking. 😄
Took longer than I thought though.
It's not an easy thing to get under control, so it's understandable that it took longer than you thought.
I personally have much work to do on myself, in that regard. 😊
Maybe we all do.
Maybe, indeed, Tim.
Yep, it an interesting guy indeed. Great piece. Thanks for writing and sharing!
Thanks for reading Michael.
Well thanks for giving me about 10 new Tweets! :) Great quotes.
The quotes make great tweets. Share them Sarah.

He hasn't written a book which sucks. Wish he would. I can ghostwrite it for him.
Ha, that would be awesome! Don't think he'd be upset either :-)
Do you have Keanu's phone number? How do we reach the guy?
Tim it's like you're reading my mind dude! I didn't realize how much I needed this until I read it.
Thank you thank you for continuing to delivery quality posts.
My pleasure Martin. What we need finds us at just the right time.
Thank you for putting this out, Tim.....I have always liked Keanu Reeves and these quotes are very thought provoking......
No probs :)
This is fantastic. I knew he was humble and unassuming but this goes beyond that. Thank you.
Many people don't know the real Keanu.
Keanu is a mysterious, intelligent guy. Always fascinating learning when he rarely speaks outside of movies. Nice article Tim
Yep, his speaking is rare and a huge gift.
