Tim Denning, brilliant article, great to see that there are still people that bring up such topics nowadays, respect!
Thank God in my life the people that I desperately needed appeared on time. Opportunities and circumstances developed my way, and each opportunity I seized instantly. Of course, luck also plays a huge role here. I come from a poor family and at the age of 17 I first asked myself "How can you make money in this world?" and dreamed of earning $1,000/month. At 22, I achieved all the material goals that I dreamed about so much (believe me, when you are from an ordinary family, you don’t dream of buying a yacht for $25 million) and then emptiness appeared in my life, I didn’t know what I wanted next, all my days seemed to float in some sort of fog. After some time, I came to the conclusion that I feel free, money for me now is a resource for building something more. It can easily be the best coffee shop (which will be run by mom) where they will make the best coffee so that I can always go there with friends and partners and get that coffee or I build one of the most beautiful parks in my city. My partner owns a network of clinics, I constantly tell him that my next project will be to build an outstanding, world’s best hospital.
My advice to you is to set goals beyond life possibilities and your life with always be saturated with meaning and purpose. You shouldn’t ever forget that everything is possible, even if you have never achieved it, you only need desire and hard work for things to come together. Don’t forget about your loved ones whilst driving in your car or going somewhere (you’ll have time to listen to music in your headphones later), call your mom or dad without any purpose and ask them how they are and whether everything is alright. This may be a quick dialogue that will take you only 1 minute, but you will make your loved ones a little happier. One day it may be too late and there will be no one to call, remember this so that you don’t regret it later.
P.S. Always look at your life from the outside and think about what you need to change in order to achieve a particular goal in life.
Tim, we all need a slap every now and then. This one did that for me. I’ve made a difference in previous years. Now I want to rock this one. I just had a health scare, friends are dropping, other friends have given up or given in. That’s not me. I’m older now so time is more a factor, but I’m still breathing. I can doing anything I want and I am. Thanks for the nudge.
Good one. By the time I was 28 I had accomplished every single goal/dream that I'd had as a teenager. I'm proud of that, and it's left me feeling like even if I died now (which I'd prefer not to) I wouldn't have many regrets.
Well this being an anonymous account (for now) I haven't published a lot about myself.
Basically I graduated college then lived abroad for ten years, learning a second language and having all sorts of zany adventures. Supporting myself most of the time with freelance writing.
I did publish a few pieces. One about my time working for a wealthy New Yorker
I hope you like the articles. I'm happy to have a two-way dynamic. Based on your writing I know a lot about you, I'm glad for you to know a bit about me.
Tim Denning, you're a master but also a stealer of content that's on my list. First the lessons learned from Rich Dad, Poor Dad and now this?! Are you reading my mind too? hehe I'll still write it anyhow, I'll study what made this article so compelling and brilliant, I didn't want the scroll bar to end. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 10 points to Gryffindor!
Thanks Tim, it seems to be a natural when I am in mental transition ( I just spilled a wonderfully made whipped cream topped self made large cup of coffee at my computer) I get it up, sing hallelujah any how and go back to my computer after reparing , cleaning, and wiping ) I see this article and smile. My day has started anew. I would like to adopt you. (smile)
One of the hosts of our show has a written mission statement he keeps on his desk. It has seven statements describing his top life priorities. The last statement is a stark motivation: "It is necessary that I remember one day I will die."
The slap lots of people need. Thanks to working with you and Todd, I am planning for the next 30 'retirement' years by staying in the game. Who knows where it will lead? Can't take our comfortable retirement for granted. #AgewithAttitude
Thanks, Tim. If we learned from this article that the past is disempowering and the future is empowering we would know how powerful we are in the present. ECP.
I’ve been reading your work for several years. Always enjoyed it, but this article compelled me to compliment you. You make it worthwhile clicking on Substack notifications. I know one of them will be from you.
"The answer to money problems is to make more money. None of us are too dumb to do this. The skills you have determine the value you create. If you need more money you need more skills – or to upgrade your skills. That’s no reason to get angry. Just do it." -- l like that.
Right on Tim...excellent article. Perfect timing. Loved every word of it and am taking some of them to heart and into practice. Love the pragmatism I often find in your writing. Here's what I know about "the good ol' days' and 'Never to old"...Our Spirit, Soul, Essence, what ever you want to call it, does not know from a number, (age). It only knows if we are aligned with it or not. And we know when we are aligned with it when we are in the "flow" as you describe. In the "flow" there is no lack of ideas or inspiration. Possibilities are unlimited. It's whether or not we take action. Don't get me started. I really just wanted to thank you yet again for your skill, wisdom and generosity. I follow you here and on Medium. Rock on my friend. And stay close to that Storm Pooper!

Comment of the day Ted. You should publish this as an essay.

Love the support you show Six
Thank you, Six! I am.

What a way to live. Can you send me a link to more about your life story?

"Mental transition" is a cool idea Tawanda.
Your best article yet. Nice job, Tim!

Thank you for this value-filled article, Tim.
My pleasure Thamayi :)
Wow, Tim. That's one heck of an article. It just got me deep inspired.
Glad you think so Carlos.
This article is the equivalent of David Goggins coming to my house in the morning while Im doomscrolling and giving me a speech, thank you!
Gotta love David Goggins Ernesto :)

You made my day Joe. Thank you. I read your comment three times. Admittedly I didn't know what "pragmatism" meant. Had to google LOL
